The ocean wasn’t calm that day. It was attacking. Wave after wave broke against the Arucas coastline with a force that made standing still feel like a decision. With the camera locked on the tripod and the golden pre-sunset light catching every thread of spray, I blended multiple exposures to hold it all — the chaos, the detail, the light. Overflow is one of my favourite images I’ve ever made, and this is why — preserved in archival Fine Art, ready to anchor your space.

Behind the image

“The ocean wasn’t performing for me. It was doing what it always does — and I just had to be fast enough, steady enough, and lucky enough to catch it.”

The Arucas coastline that afternoon felt hostile. The Atlantic was surging hard against the volcanic rock, sending walls of white water over the formations with no pause between sets. I set the tripod as close as I dared — close enough to feel the spray on the lens — and began blending exposures to capture what a single frame couldn’t hold: the motion of the water, the stillness of the rock, the golden warmth of the pre-sunset sky lighting it all from behind.

The result is an image with a density of detail that rewards time — the texture of every wave, the grain of the volcanic stone, the last warm light of the day caught in the spray. This is the Overflow Gran Canaria print — one of my favourites, and the one I keep coming back to.
