“It was the light that stopped me. Not the wave — the light inside it.”

I was already shooting on the Arucas coastline — the same rocks, the same angry Atlantic, the same golden hour that would produce Overflow minutes later. But before all of that, there was this: a single wave rising against the dark volcanic formations, backlit by the low pre-sunset sun. The warm tones buried in the rock, the way the water turned amber mid-air, the texture of every detail catching and holding the light — I knew immediately this frame was something different.

What I love most about this image is not the impact itself — it is the warmth. The colours that live in the details of the rock and the spray are not what you expect from a crashing wave. They are intimate, almost quiet, despite the violence of the moment. This is the Impact Gran Canaria print — a frame about light as much as water.
